The
Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) is an instructional sailing
program for juniors, ages 8 to 18, and is conducted from late
June to mid-August at the Pettipaug Yacht Club under the auspices
of the Pettipaug Sailing Academy, Inc.
The PSA Application Form may be
filled out online, downloaded, printed out and mailed in with
the registration fee. Registration is first come first served.
There are two sessions during the season; each session is divided into morning
and afternoon classes. Morning classes typically are for beginners and
junior sailors ages 8 to 11 when the winds are the lightest.
The training boats are: Optimist dinghies, C/C 420s and Blue Jays. Students as
they progress through the program earn “ranks” for accomplishing
specific skills which are awarded at graduation.
The PSA Director is supported by a staff of five
to six Senior instructors, two of whom coach the Opti and 420 racing teams. Junior
instructors are selected from the older students who have exhibited responsible
behavior as well as excellent boat skills, and receive
a discount on their tuition. Parent volunteers round out the crew, assisting
at the clubhouse or transporting junior racers and their boats to regattas.
PSA is all about FUN on the water and teaching many
important life lessons along the way – sailing skills, adapting to the forces
of nature, personal responsibility and sportsmanship to name a few. |
